What the work involves
Send side and top views, the underside and latch area. Cracks in the base, water in the foam and cover damage are separate issues. The seat must still locate correctly on the craft, so material thickness and the wrapped edge need to respect the original mounting arrangement.

Materials, fit and finish
Choose texture for the contact surface and colour with the surrounding body panels. Seams, backing and fastening matter as much as the face material in a wet environment. Discuss care and storage for the chosen construction rather than assuming it is maintenance-free.
What changes the quote
An accurate scope distinguishes the visible upholstery from the base, padding, fixings and adjacent trim. The number of pieces, access for removal, material choice and pattern complexity all affect the work. Tell us whether you want a close match, a contrasting accent or a broader interior change. Prepare your enquiry
Send a wide view, a close-up of the damage or detail, and the make, model and year. Include the reverse of loose pieces when safely accessible. Explain what should remain unchanged and share a colour or material reference if you have one. Contact the Hollywood atelier before bringing a vehicle, vessel or detached components. Inspection, transport arrangements and completion timing are agreed for your project.
Treat a marine cushion as a complete assembly
The cover is only the visible layer of a boat cushion. Foam, backing, seams, zips, drainage paths and fastenings determine how the finished piece fits and how it can dry after use. A material described as water resistant does not make every seam and opening in the assembled cushion waterproof. Match the whole construction to the location and exposure.
Separate shaded cabin pieces from exposed bow seating, helm upholstery and sunpads. Those areas can differ in how often they get wet, whether people stand on them, and how they are stored when the boat is unused. Closed-cell and open-cell foams have different behaviour; neither label alone selects the right thickness, support or construction for every cushion. The choice belongs to the actual application.
Photograph the underside of removable pieces when it is readily accessible. Show zips, mesh, vents, attachment points and the supporting deck or base. Identify any trapped moisture, damaged base or loose fastening before selecting a new cover. If an existing cushion has changed shape, record the space it must fit as well as its current dimensions. Build cleaning and drying into the material choice
Choose an upholstery material together with its care instructions. A cleaner approved for one coated vinyl can be unsuitable for another fabric or finish. Read the guidance for the exact product instead of assuming that every material sold for marine use accepts the same chemicals. Test any permitted cleaning method on an inconspicuous area first, following the manufacturer’s directions.
Routine care begins with removing loose dirt before it is worked into seams and textures. Where the product instructions allow washing, remove cleaning residue as directed and let the complete piece dry before enclosed storage. A clean-looking face can conceal moisture beneath a cushion or against its base. Check those areas during ordinary care, especially after the boat has been closed for a while.
UV resistance and mildew resistance are material characteristics, not a promise of unlimited outdoor life or maintenance-free use. Exposure, covers, drainage, ventilation and the condition of the underlying assembly still matter. Choose between a coated surface and a woven fabric
A wipeable coated surface and a woven upholstery fabric offer different tactile and maintenance experiences. Start with the application: exposed seating, a sheltered cockpit, a cabin sofa or a removable decorative cushion. Then compare the exact product specifications for that use. A familiar brand name does not make every product in its range suitable for the same place.
Ask about the face material, backing, compatible cleaning method and intended construction. For a woven fabric, texture and the direction of the weave affect the appearance of adjoining panels. For a coated vinyl, grain, gloss and seam placement can be equally prominent. Neither choice should be made from a colour swatch without considering how the assembled cushion will be used and stored.
If a particular brand such as Sunbrella interests you, identify the product family and confirm availability for the project rather than assuming that the name specifies a stocked material. Map the pieces before they leave the boat
Several similar cushions can have different corners, underside fastenings or clearances. Before removing pieces that are intended to be removable, take an overview of the installed layout and give each piece a simple label. Include its position, front edge and the piece beside it. Keep the same labels in photographs and in the inventory sent to the atelier.
A useful measurement record includes length, width and thickness, but also the conditions around the cushion. Show a curved coaming, a hatch below, a rail above or a lid that has to open. A replacement can look correct on a workbench and still interfere with access if those relationships are overlooked. Existing covers are helpful references; stretched or distorted covers should not be treated as the only source of dimensions.
Fixed panels and built-in seating need a different plan from loose cushions. Explain where the vessel is located and which pieces can be safely accessed, then agree the inspection and transport arrangements before dismantling anything. Do not assume marina work, collection or installation on board is included. For larger sets, group photographs by area: helm, cockpit, bow, flybridge and interior.
